Spin Spectacular Super-Group, featuring Paul Booth

Wednesday 20th December 2023

The band:

Paul Booth ~ saxophones
Nick Gilmore ~ keyboards
Pete Oxley ~ guitars
Louis Stringer ~ double bass
Tom Hooper ~ drums

From the age of 16, Paul Booth has been winning prestigious awards for his exceptional saxophone playing (this first award was for ‘Best Modern Jazz Player’ category on the televised BBC ‘Young Player of the Year’) and has ever since led a flourishing career at the top of all sorts of musical genres. Here’s a brief synopsis:

Paul has toured and/or recorded with, among others, Steely Dan, Eric Clapton, The Eagles, Chaka Khan, Bonnie Raitt, Incognito, BBC Big Band, and countless other A-listers! Paul’s exuberant playing has recently been heard at The Spin in his band with the equally brilliant Ross Stanley.

We also welcome back the brilliant ‘new jazz generation’ bassist, Louis Stringer! Louis is now resident in the USA, having won a scholarship to the prestigious Berklee Jazz School. He has now graduated at ‘masters’ level, having studied with Linda May Han Oh (Pat Metheny) and John Patittucci (Chick Corea), and is already a massively in-demand bassist on the east coast jazz scene.

The Spin also welcomes the keyboard wizard, Nick Gilmore - arguably the highlight musician in Emily Saunder’s great gig at the Spin recently - and on drums, the highly inventive and groovesome drummer, Tom Hooper (long-time band member with violin virtuoso, Chris Garrick. Tom also has a diverse career, having recorded with David Gordon, Grace Jones, Simple Minds and Steve Harley, amongst many others).

This is going to be a night of joyous jazz, delivered at the highest level! Seriously folks, don’t miss out: please ensure your part in celebrating a great year at The Spin by being at this gig.
